Fresh off supporting 49th & Main at the 3Olympia, Khakikid is back with Date Nite, a track that oozes confidence, cheeky charm, and pure swagger. Taken from his Moanbag EP, this one’s got that infectious energy that makes you want to blast it with the windows down, whether it’s summer or, in my case, a freezing 3 degrees outside.
From the jump, Date Nite hooks you in with its bouncy, playful beat. Then comes Khakikid’s signature flow, effortlessly switching up, packed with personality, and full of lines that are both hilarious and slick. “Your to-be ex-boyfriend is scared of any kid over six in a tracksuit” is an instant classic, and the whole track is full of those sharp, tongue-in-cheek moments.
Lyrically, it’s all about the chaos of a night out, the blurry lines between romance and bad decisions, the walk of shame, and the kind of confidence only a few pints deep can provide. The chorus is catchy as hell, with that perfect mix of cheek and charm: “Just ‘cause I called you gorgeous, don’t mean I know your name.” It’s a simple hook but really does the job.
It doesn’t stop there though with this track the video is pure gold. There’s a simple but oddly mesmerizing dance routine involving weights (is it water aerobics? Who knows, but it works). There’s chickens, there’s gym workouts and a few donkeys. It’s the kind of visual that just makes you want to run it back a few times and is perfectly on brand for Khakikid.
And it’s not just us loving it, social media is all over this one. TikToks and reels are flooded with clips, and the comments say it all. One person summed it up perfectly: “He just made the Dub accent sexy again.”
Khakikid has been putting in serious work lately, even jumping on stage with his mate Joe Butler at Whelan’s last week, which we have a full review of. With tracks like Date Nite, he’s proving why he’s one of the most exciting names coming up right now. It’s a vibe, it’s hilarious, and it’s got replay value for days. Hon the lads.
It was such a good ‘Date Nite’ that it gets a 8.5 out of 10
