Julie Odell today shares new single ‘Orioles Eating Oranges’, out today via New York label, Frenchkiss. The new song marks the first release from Odell since her acclaimed 2022 debut album Autumn Eve. ‘Orioles Eating Oranges’ picks up where Autumn Eve left, three years earlier. A tender, wistful song about watching and observing a happy functioning family unit.
Odell continues – “I had gone with my daughter to Indiana to visit my sister and her family right before the start of the world shutting down and ended up staying for several months. It was the first time I had seen kids freely playing from sun up to sundown since I was a kid myself.”
Odell’s mother is a painter, and her father is a potter, and she spent much of her childhood in the back of a van, trekking to art festivals and craft fairs for months at a time with her parents, which was how they made a living. She was surrounded by artists and their art for her whole life, so it was only a matter of time before she started making her own art. ‘Orioles Eating Oranges’ begins a new chapter for Odell, who, despite the silence, has been steadfastly writing and honing her craft. There will be more from her very soon.
