Joshua Burnside shares new single ‘The Last Armchair’, a quietly devastating moment from his forthcoming album It’s Not Going to Be Okay, out March 20th.
Stripped back and unguarded, ‘The Last Armchair’ is a delicate meditation on grief and memory, finding Joshua Burnside clinging to childlike vulnerability as the world shifts beneath him.
“This one’s about feeling like a child deep down, especially in times of great pain,” Burnside explains. “I don’t think I feel any different inside as when I was 10 years old, or younger even.”
Following a Choice Music Prize nomination for Album of the Year (upcoming awards night performance on March 5th) and Folk Album of The Year nomination, the single arrives amid a landmark period for Burnside, who will embark on his headline tour from March 21st, including dates with Ye Vagabonds and a Foy Vance support slot..
‘The Last Armchair’ further cements Burnside’s reputation as one of the most singular and affecting voices in contemporary folk — an artist unafraid to sit with discomfort and transform it into something quietly beautiful.
