Duel is the upcoming album from Jinjer. The band has promised a heavy album full of new elements while staying true to their identity—They have no fear to attempt new things and mix different styles on their sound, and this album is no exception. I can confidently say they have delivered everything they promised— and even more!
This is an album where the band had more time to dedicate and it also brings an interesting experience and maturity level in the band’s work – it has a level up of arrangements and the band were able to show again how unique they are in every work.
Listening to the album all the way through is impressive—each song gives you a different vibe. It mixes heavy metal, metal core, groove, djent, melodic metal and prog in a way that makes Jinjer authentic. Every track will navigate you into a different vibes! And for the BLEGH lovers… spoiler alert: there are a few!
The album kicks off with the powerful track ‘Tantrum’- It is impressive, packed with unexpected arrangements that make it an unique listening experience. A music with multiple layers revealing new musical elements as you listen. From heavy metal riffs to groove and prog, the blend of genres which creates a rich track.
Next up is ‘Hedonist’, a song that sets the tone for the entire album. The mix of clean and growling vocals remains surprising and mesmerising, maintaining the band’s signature. Then we have ‘Rogue’ – one of the singles the band released, it has a lot of elements from their Macro album songs, personally.
Then we have ‘Tumbleweed’, it has a melodic pinch at the beginning – something brand new Jinjer is bringing on this album, starting with the beautiful clean vocals of Tatiana.
Green Serpent – We can see why it was chosen as a single—the lyrics and melody fit perfectly and give a great taste of the new album. It’s heavy, groovy, and progressive, with a mix of growls and clean vocals that Tatiana delivers effortlessly while also demonstrating her skills as a great lyricist.
Following the next song ‘Kafka’ – It’s the third single, starting with a beautiful intro that has a power ballad vibe and a lovely touch of prog, leading to a powerful twist at the end. It keeps us expecting growling vocals at any moment when we listen to it for the first time.
Next track is ‘Dark Bile’ – It shows how the band members are a perfect match when making music. The melody is beautiful, and the chorus is catchy.
And then we have ‘Fast Draw’ – the band has been playing this song since their last tour at European festivals, US and Latin America, it was a good choice to have it as a live song so the fans could taste how they are still good at a good making some metal core in a djent touch! And also making it exclusive for the fans who attended their last shows.
Then it leads us to the powerful ‘Someone’s Daughter’ – It was the first single the band released from Duel, it has such moving lyrics and made the fans thirsty for the new album.
As we approach the final tracks, ‘A Tongue to the Sky’ brings us almost to the end of this masterpiece. It has a light touch of black metal in the structure at the beginning and possibly in the middle of the song, with different atmospheres shaping the whole music.
Then we have the album’s title track, Duel—the final song of the album. It feels like a rollercoaster, shifting between moods and energies, with a touch of Amy Winehouse’s style at the end. It’s also very different from anything Jinjer has done before, making it a great choice for the closing track.
It’s definitely another new style Jinjer has embraced, showing once again that they’re never afraid to try something different. Duel has also became a pre-release single recently dropped on the band’s social media.
Overall, it’s a complete album, filled with new textures and blended styles that Jinjer has naturally made their own. It showcases their growth and experience in music while proving that they continue to challenge themselves with each release. This album is truly a masterpiece and a turning point in their career.
