jerry (formerly known as Hodgy Beats of Odd Future) unveils his LP lovemesooner, the first release belonging to this new project under his own label Poortrait Records. Accompanying it is the focus track ‘time is measured’ which captures the spirit of his creative reinvention. jerry is ready to introduce himself.
Establishing himself within the era-defining hip-hop collective Odd Future, jerry brings his virtuosity and subversive instincts and translates them, on this new project, into a new vocabulary. On ‘time is measured’, he draws on earthbound textures – acoustic guitars and emphatic piano flourishes – to elevate his verses to something that stretches far beyond the confines of expectation.
lovemesooner follows on from the record’s three-song sampler and its forerunning EP piupiupiu produced by Saya Gray, musical director for Daniel Caeser and WILLOW. which served as a statement of intent. Abandoning the Hodgy DSP and YouTube pages, the first new video jerry posted was the visuals for ‘facing the worst fears’ in which he gets a crash course in learning how to ride a bull; embracing recklessness, relinquishing control and accepting accountability for the outcome.
