Irish shoegaze/noise rock upstarts anemoia – to release expansive new guitar driven single ‘cowboy’

cowboy’ is a shoegaze/noise rock piece that drifts through a haze of co-dependency. Written originally as 16 verses on Enniscrone beach -exploring the old Irish diaspora in London, the melody was soon encompassed by the band in an afternoon. Swirling guitars churn promptly, pulling you into a soundscape that is unsettling, intense and impossible to escape. Titled ‘cowboy’ as an in-rehearsal joke, it caught on contextually with the beguiling & cyclical nature of the song.

As the first glimpse into an upcoming body of work from anemoia, it sets the tone for a world shaped by substances, vices and the weight of where you’ve come from, even when you’re miles away.

anemoia is a noise rock band that began in County Mayo, first shaping their sound through tape machines before evolving into a heavier, slacker-infused force. Early recordings found a home in an underground Soundcloud scene, where a like-minded community helped shape their direction. Now based in Dublin, the band channels film, fleeting experiences, and everyday melancholy into their music, where vocals drift as another instrument in the mix.

Selling out their debut show in the Workman’s Cellar the very month of forming, they have gone on to support many reputable acts and have had the honour of headlining venues across the city. Creating a loud and intimidating atmosphere in their performances, they notably played at 2024 & 2025 Whelan’s One to Watch and sold out their previous show at the same location.

The sound continues to be restless and raw, building on this sense of nostalgia and the weight of things left unsaid.

anemoia release  ‘cowboy’ on Fri 4th April
