Irish comedian and singer-songwriter Siomha Hennessy – announces release of new single ‘Unexpectedly Unfamous’

Síomha Hennessy is a Dublin-born comedian and singer-songwriter. Her solo musical comedy ‘30 Under 30’ (previously titled ‘The Coil’s Lament) had sell-out runs in both Edinburgh and Dublin Fringe festivals, and was nominated for the Dublin Fringe Spirit of Wit Award.

Her work blends witty social commentary with high-quality original songwriting. Formerly one half of duo Sisterix, she is currently recording her debut solo EP – set to be released in September 2025.

‘Unexpectedly Unfamous’ is a cheeky alt-pop anthem for the delusional!

Tragicomic diva Síomha Hennessy delivers this upbeat ‘cabaret pop’ lament on the indignities of trying to make it as an artist in 2025. Think Edith Piaf crossed with Sabrina Carpenter!

The self-funded projects, the street busking, the forcing friends to attend ‘staged readings’ in dusty old pub basements…brass-necked Síomha’s done it all. But surely overnight success is JUST around the corner….just one more crowd funded ‘experimental art’ project ‘away?

Síomha saysThere’s a wealth of hilarious experiences to mine from my career in the arts. If you didn’t laugh, you’d cry. Building a career in the arts is not for the faint hearted!

Whether it’s paying out of pocket for giant billboards of myself at Edinburgh Fringe, or asking friends to comment on my tiktok videos ”for the algorithm”…every day is a lesson in putting your pride aside. I reckon I’m gonna be so enlightened in the end. Buddhist monks have nothing on me…you wanna talk about ego death? Try performing in the basement of a burrito restaurant as kitchen porters ramble in and out carrying large vats of kidney beans!

I really tip my hat to anyone putting themselves and their work out there and risking embarrassment. To those people, I just want to say – yes, people are laughing at you, you’ve made a tit of yourself.

But keep doing it. Eventually you’ll either break through and suddenly everyone will be your biggest fan, or else you won’t and you’ll die a sad fool still trying to ”crack the algorithm”. But people might appreciate you when you’re dead. Like Bach and Vincent Van Gogh. That’s actually my new career goal. Posthumous success. Feels more achievable.

Anyway, you know what’s worse than making a tit of yourself? Not doing anything, out of fear. So be cringe. Who can afford dignity in this economy?
