Happy Mondays brought their 35 Years of Pills ’n’ Thrills and Bellyaches tour to Vicar Street for the second of two Dublin shows, with support from The Farm. After the first night on 22 April had completely sold out, this second date came incredibly close, creating another packed and energetic atmosphere in one of Dublin’s best live venues.
The Farm opened the night with an eight-song set that mixed classic favourites with newer material, showing they still have plenty of energy and stage presence. Their performance balanced nostalgia with freshness, keeping the crowd engaged from the beginning. A standout moment came with their cover of ”Bankrobber” by The Clash, which went down particularly well with the audience and added an extra spark to their set.
When Happy Mondays took to the stage, the reaction was immediate. The Manchester legends delivered a sixteen-song set packed with swagger, rhythm, and the unmistakable baggy sound that made them icons. As expected, the full Pills ’n’ Thrills and Bellyaches album formed the heart of the performance, with tracks like “Step On,” “Kinky Afro,” and “Loose Fit” receiving huge responses from the crowd. The band sounded tight, and the mix of dance grooves, rock attitude, and Shaun Ryder’s unique vocal style created a set full of energy and character.
Beyond the classic album, the additional songs helped round out the night and reminded everyone how fun the Happy Mondays can be live . It was a night full of nostalgia, celebration, and singalong moments, proving that 35 years later, these songs still sound as vibrant as ever.
