Day one of The Greenfields Festival 2025 in Athy kicked off with a bang yesterday. The festival has clearly stepped up its game this year, with more family-friendly activities, community spaces, and a packed lineup across multiple stages.
We started the day soaking in the atmosphere, and it was clear from the get-go that this year’s festival is all about inclusivity and variety. The Heineken Stage hosted the Battle of the Bands, a fantastic initiative giving local talent a chance to shine. Last year’s winners, Forge, returned with a solid set that reminded everyone why they took the crown.
Next up, we caught Lavengro, an up-and-coming band that’s been generating a lot of buzz lately. Their performance was engaging. They showed off their talent with some very catchy tracks and also showed those who turned up to the gig just why their hype is well-deserved.

After the brilliant Lavengro, Robert Grace took to The Greenfields Stage. Robert is beginning his upcoming tour here, which will also include shows in Dublin, Kilkenny and Limerick. He delivered a set filled with his extensive catalog of hits and afterwards took time to snap selfies with fans, a class act through and through.

Jerry Fish then brought his unique flair to the festival, getting the crowd moving with his infectious energy and eclectic sound. His performance was a highlight, showcasing why he’s a staple in the Irish music scene. We’re looking forward to catching him at a few more festival dates this summer.

Aslan followed, and they were nothing short of iconic. You’d expect nothing less to be fair. Billy McGuinness was a force of nature, engaging with the crowd and delivering a performance that was both heartfelt and exhilarating. Time I watch these guys live Billy just makes me smile. He really loves doing this even after all these years.

We then made our way over to the River Stage to see George Murphy and the Rising Sons. George’s vocals were as powerful as ever, leaving the packed tent in awe. It’s always a treat to witness such raw talent live. I spent a bit of time here just soaking in the talent that this group has.

To cap off the night, The Whistlin’ Donkeys took the Greenfields Stage by storm. Their high-energy set had everyone dancing, proving once again that they know how to close out a festival in style. The tent was packed and it was a great way to finish the night.

Looking ahead, today’s lineup promises more excitement with headliner Gavin James, The Stunning, Mundy, Michael English, and Switch Disco, among others. The sun is shining, and the festival spirit is alive and well, here’s to another fantastic day at The Greenfields!
