Good Kid brought their Can We Hang Out? tour to Dublin’s 3Olympia on September 19, delivering a sold-out night of energetic indie rock, enthusiastic crowds and plenty of interaction between band and audience.
The scale of the demand was clear before the doors had even opened. Arriving at the venue, the queue stretching down the street was one of the largest seen in some time so early in the evening, with fans seemingly determined to get inside early enough to catch both acts. The merch queue was equally impressive, remaining busy throughout the evening.
Australian indie rockers Last Dinosaurs had the task of getting the crowd moving, and they wasted little time doing so. Opening with ”Bass God” the four piece quickly established an upbeat atmosphere, following with tracks including ”Purist” ”Her Mind” ”Weekend” and ”Zoom”. Their 10 song set proved more than enough to get the 3Olympia audience dancing and jumping, with the crowd fully engaged well before the main act took to the stage.
Then came Good Kid.
The response when the band walked onto the stage was deafening, with cheers and screams ringing around the venue. That energy remained constant throughout a 21 song set that showcased not only the band’s music but also their ability to connect with their audience.
Opening with ”Wall” Good Kid quickly settled into a high energy performance. Songs including ”Tell Me You Know” ”Down With The King” ”Staying Warm” ”Cicada” and ”Madeleine” kept the momentum high, while frequent interaction with the crowd kepted the crowd engaged.
The band themselves appeared to be having as much fun as the audience, throwing themselves into each song with an infectious enthusiasm. There was a sense of spontaneity throughout the evening, with the members clearly comfortable feeding off the energy coming from the packed room.
By the end of the night, the sold-out 3Olympia had become a sea of movement and noise. With two energetic performances and a crowd that stayed fully invested from the opening act through to Good Kid’s final songs, the Dublin stop of the Can We Hang Out? tour proved to be a memorable night for fans of both bands.
