Gender bending Irish artist and composer Last Apollo – releases hauntingly beautiful new single ‘Dandelion’

Irish-born, London-based artist and composer Last Apollo (a.k.a Lucy Rice) has refined a sound so arresting that her live shows have gained a reputation and loyal following across Ireland and the UK.

Unconcerned by the boundaries of genre and form, Last Apollo borrows from the worlds of rock, folk and pop music (as well as a myriad of sub-genres) to sew together sonic tapestries exploring the raw, similarly borderless complexities of the human condition. Last Apollo’s songs are as intricately crafted lyrically as they are musically – each word is deliberate, weighted and merely amplified by her emotionally-charged vocal delivery. In “Dandelion,” dreamlike images shift and alternate, morphing into each other and back into the bed of the song while Last Apollo’s ever-present voice shudders underfoot. Her voice acts as the constant centre, keeping the listener from being swallowed entirely by this forceful composition. The poignant and borderline hypnotic “Dandelion” is the first studio offering from the artist since 2022, when her debut EP immediately identified her nationally as “One to Watch”

Recent performances of note include: A chamber orchestra setting of her newest collection of songs at The Button Factory, Ireland, a UK and Irish tour including headline dates in Dublin, London, and Galway, and a poetry and literature-infused headline concert at the CCI Paris alongside writers Caelainn Hogan and Stephanie Conn. Other performances include support for Sprints, Sammy Copley, Genn and international festival appearances at Primavera (Barcelona) and Pro-Weekend Fest (Valencia), Electric Picnic (Ireland).
