Dropping the 7th of February is rising Irish artist Flexx Carter’s upcoming track, “No Discussion,” featuring the ridiculously talented Joe Butler. This single is the first taste of Flexx’s forthcoming EP, “The Strangest Life I’ve Ever Known.”
From the get-go, “No Discussion” pulls you in with its laid-back beat. Joe Butler’s vocals on the hook are effortlessly smooth, delivered with a relaxed vibe that makes it an easy listen. It’s one of those hooks that’s really easy to vibe with and gives the track an added layer. The feature makes the track seem polished and ready for mainstream success.
Flexx is on fire with his verses on this one. His flow is something else—switching up rhyme schemes throughout the song and packing in plenty of double entendres. Kicking off verses with tight four-syllable patterns and then stretching into longer lines and buildups, constantly keeping things fresh and engaging. There’s a raw, conversational tone in lines like, “I’ve invested too much in us, went over budget / And I’m not happy about this girl, in fact I’m fucking gutted.” It brings to mind the candidness of Eminem’s “Hailie’s Song.” Speaking of Eminem, there’s a cool similarity between the two also in terms of speaking to their alter egos. In “No Discussion” this comes in the line “Cian’s a pussy, I know Flexx is judgin’.” Here, Flexx refers to himself by his real name, Cian, highlighting a split persona much like Eminem and his alter ego, Slim Shady.
A recurring theme in Flexx’s music is space, the globe and astronauts. In this track, he mentions, “Floating through the space of our minds…like some astronauts,” echoing references from his earlier hit “Take Care.” Fun fact: Flexx even sports an astronaut tattoo and with tracks like this one it’s easy to see his flow as other-worldly.
All in all, No Discussion is the kind of track that sneaks up on you—chill enough to vibe to, but packed with enough lyrical skill and high production value to keep you hitting replay. Joe Butler’s chorus is addictive but for him that’s effortless, while Flexx goes off, weaving sharp wordplay with raw honesty. His cadence keeps the energy shifting, making each verse feel fresh. If No Discussion is a taste of what’s to come, then Flexx’s upcoming EP, The Strangest Life I’ve Ever Known, is shaping up to be something serious. Keep this one on your radar.
