Now and then you come across a band that just resonates with you on multiple levels. Across multiple dimensions almost. It’s like the tones that Elbow create are consistent with the natural vibrations that the body emits, and when one is in the presence of this band, all the cogs aline and I’m exactly where I am meant to be.
The 1st of July 2024 in Trinity College, is exactly where I was meant to be. Photographing Guy Garvey up the front doing his thing and making the crowd feel like they are in the perfect moment. 11:11.
With minor monitor issues at the start, it does nothing to stop the momentum of this beautiful night. Hitting on tracks from their incredible back catalogue, we heard The Take Off And Landing Of Everything to The Seldom Seen Kid and right on to their 10th Studio Album, Audio Vertigo.
I couldn’t stop thinking about how damn good Guy’s voice is. Like literally the exact same as it hits on each album. Such incredible talent and an amazing use of his instrument. A band that has been together for 34 years now, they sure know how to do it and the new album is a testament to that.
For those who attended, can say that they experienced a magical night and an ending full of colour as the Skys opened up and gave us a beautiful show of light during the song Seldom Seen Kid and Guy telling us to “Look at that sky” truly magical.
My cousin who is sadly no longer with us, is the reason I adore Elbow so much as it was one of his favourite bands and since his passing, I have done my best to attend their shows in Dublin.
Each time, it has been a beautiful experience and the music created by Elbow is something I would encourage all to pluck your ears up to.
In the words of Guy Garvey on the night “Here’s to absent friends everyone”.
Elbow’s 10th Studio Album “Audio Vertigo” was released on the 22nd of March ’24 on Polydor Records and has gone straight to Number 1 in the UK charts.
Conchur White supported with some beautiful tracks of his latest release “Swirling Violets”. With just an acoustic in hand, along with some keys and a drum pad backing him up, he caught the attention of everyone and you could tell that he was well known amongst the crowd.
Hailing from the lands of Co Armagh, Conchur was clearly chuffed to be supporting Elbow.
He announced his upcoming headline gig in the Workman’s Club on November 9th.
So I will be sure to catch him again for some more photos.
