Dublin-based pianist and composer Daniel Luke unveils his latest single, My Father’s Son, a deeply personal composition for piano and cello that marks a significant evolution in his musical journey. The track, performed alongside cellist Lizzi Murtough, is an intimate reflection on his relationship with his late father, and marks the artists’ first release beyond solo piano.
“Rather than dwelling on tragedy, this piece reflects on everything I’ve done since my father’s passing—how he might feel about my life, my family, and the person I’ve become,” says Daniel.
Daniel first gained recognition with his debut solo album, Shadow Dance (2023), a collection of intimate piano pieces that he brought to audiences across Ireland and beyond, including performances at Dublin’s National Concert Hall and Glastonbury. In 2024, he expanded his work to composing for screen and concert performance, graduating from Pulse College’s Scoring for Film, TV, and Interactive Media program. Most recently, he composed The Fingers Suite for artist Bobby Fingers’ latest film, showcasing his ability to craft evocative and cinematic music.
To accompany the release of My Father’s Son, Daniel collaborated with Garr Cleary to create a visually stunning music video, which will have its official premiere at the Back to Front Screening Festivalat Dublin’s Stella Cinema on March 1st. The video follows the final day in a man’s life as he reflects on everything he’s been through, guided to the next world by a spirit guide – a moving visual counterpart to the composition’s emotional depth.
This is the first in a series of new releases from Daniel.
