New Yorks Cities indie-rock/shoegaze act DIIV playing at Dublin’s Vicar st with support from Dublin indie-pop artist EFÉ.
Having seen EFÉ before in a smaller venue just recently, I would have to say that the bigger stage really suits her and the band as Anita Ikharo made full use of the stage and you could clearly see how much she was enjoying herself up there with not staying in one spot for to long.
With a video introduction informing us that a DIIV show is not just a music show, but a show on many levels, after which the stage is engulfed in smoke and low lights the band can for the most time be hard to see. Not that this matters as once the band get playing its all about the soundscapes and cosmic waves the are coming from the stage and even though you dont see much of the band shrouded in smoke they sure as hell make sure you know they are there. If its you are not seeing shadowy figures engulfed in smoke, its silhouetted figures drenched in bright flashing strobes. All of this just elevates the music to its highest and is a pleasure to witness.
