Today sees the release of Def Nettles debut album and last night saw the band play live at Up-stairs Whelans to launch said album DN001 on the night Dublin punks The Nilz took up the support slot.
Open the nights proceedings were what I call smut punk act The Nilz, I have seen Ed and the guys numerous times and always look forward to seeing them as it is in your face hardcore punk and the guys never disappoint and tonight was no exception. The guys played the crowd favourites like ‘Food For THOT’ / ‘Broken Crayons’ / ‘Ginger Jesus / ‘Shes Got Nits’ and of-course the bands favourite cover version to finish out their set ‘Gay Bar’ (Electric Six) and coming near the end of this song Ed is known to produce a firework which he inserts into his (ok look at the photos lol )

So the lights dimmed on the stage as Def Nettle took to it and quickly got the very full room going with their high energy dance -punk. I had never see these guys before so was really looking forward to this and man they are just brilliant live. Right from the get-go they had the crowd moving and this didn’t let up for the night, nor did the band with playing banging tunes like ‘Boat Race’ / ‘Narrowback’ / War Machine (Which on the album features Andy Rourke) / ‘Piss Take’ and a fantastic cover of ‘We Care A Lot’ ( Faith No More) oooh and I better not forgot a cover of ‘To Bring You My Love’ (PJ Harvey) were for the latter the lights in the venue were completely switched off and the band played in the dark.
Over all these guys are worth your time to go and see. Think Joy Division, Public Enemy, They Might Be Giants & The The and your close.
