Following extensive praise from BBC Introducing, Virgin Media’s Six O’Clock Show, RTÉ 2FM, Red FM, SPIN 103.8, Hot Press and more, Cork singer-songwriter Cathal Fitz releases ‘Paper Planes’ – the first single from his highly anticipated debut EP, Concise Waffle.
The rebel county singer‑songwriter has been rapidly gaining momentum across Ireland and the UK, launching his debut era with ‘Paper Planes’, which is the first single from his forthcoming 5‑track EP Concise Waffle, releasing September 4th.
The announcement arrives with remarkable early success: His hometown headline show in Coughlan’s, Cork sold out in under 20 hours – a defining moment for an artist stepping confidently into the national spotlight.
Sharing stages with top Irish acts Darren Kiely, Skinny Living, Seamus Harty, Jack L and Jerry Fish less than one year into his career, Fitz is quickly establishing himself as a true rising talent across Ireland and beyond. With only a handful of singles under his belt, he has already amassed over 100,000 Spotify streams.
‘Paper Planes’ is a vivid, socially conscious meditation on the emotional weight of modern life. Inspired by the idea of folding problems into “little paper planes” and watching them drift away, the track confronts political division, social fatigue, and the systems that leave people fighting just to survive. Fitz’s writing traces the human cost of that division, fractured values, misplaced faith, and the shared love that breaks under pressure while still insisting on the possibility of change.
Musically, the single blends introspective lyricism with soaring guitar textures, building toward a cathartic release that mirrors its message: empathy is overdue, and collective responsibility matters.
Speaking on the track, Fitz shares:
“Paper Planes is about wanting to escape the chaos for a moment, but also recognising that real change comes from facing it. It’s the emotional starting point of Concise Waffle.”
The release of ‘Paper Planes’ marks the beginning of a carefully structured debut campaign:
Single – ‘Paper Planes’ – 31st July
Single – ‘Rock and a Hard Place’ – 21st August
EP – Concise Waffle – 4th September
Each track explores a different angle of the world Fitz is building; concise reflections wrapped in sprawling emotion, humour threaded through heaviness, and storytelling rooted in lived experience.
