Blood Wizard released the new single – babytooth, out now via London based boutique label, Sad Club Records. Blood Wizard is the project of Cai Burns, a songwriter who has, over the last couple of years, built a reputation as one of the UK underground’s most underrated ears when it comes to arresting hooks and pop smarts. Blood Wizard’s debut album Western Spaghetti, released in 2021, wonaccolades from those in-the-know – with Huw Stephens at BBC 6Music offering particularly effusive praise.
babytooth manages to sound both intimate and ambitious; with influences ranging from Alex G to Cate Le Bon.
On the new single, Blood Wizard says:
“babytooth is a call to my inner child to stick around a bit longer. Making music is something that connects me to that chaotic, childlike energy that can so easily be lost. That energy is something I’ve wanted to try and nurture by returning to a more instinctual way of writing music that focuses more on feelings and less on thoughts. For me the song feels like losing a part of yourself to the big, bad world, like it’s slipping through your fingers when you’re not ready to let it go”
