Following the success of last year’s Silhouette and fresh from collaborating with the Grammy-nominated Crate Classics(Jamie Rodigan and Aaron Horn) on ‘Waiting For You (GOLD)’, rising singer-songwriter Aphrah kicks off 2025 with the stunning new single ‘Pretty Broken Chords’.
Co-written with Aphrah, Emma Rohan (Little Mix, Grace Grundy, James Arthur) and Jez Ashurst (Little Mix, Maisie Peters, Tom Walker), ‘Pretty Broken Chords’ is a stunning alt-pop ballad about loving someone who is at rock bottom and struggling to see their own self-worth and trying to support them through dark times. The simple production and haunting piano heighten the raw and depth of the unconditional love and desperation for their love to bring them comfort.
Aphrah says, “Pretty Broken Chords is about loving someone when they don’t love themselves and are experiencing feelings of brokenness, sadness and depression”.
‘Pretty Broken Chords’ is released alongside a lyric video, which follows on the same theme as ‘Silhouette’. It was created by the animator Sophya Kebets, who was nominated for Best Micro Short at the BFI Future Film Festival. Watch It HERE.
Tthe majority of Aphrah’s upcoming debut EP was written in the aftermath of the pandemic, a time at which themes of healing the challenges of mental health, body image, depression and anxiety were particularly inspiring. Both tracks will feature on Aphrah’s upcoming debut EP out later this year.
The Kent-based artist has released a handful of tracks prior to this release, with support coming from BBC Introducing, XS Noize and more. A remix of her track ‘Another Night’ from The Vanguard Project (Spearhead Records) was particularly impactful, leading to Radio 1 airplay and extensive playlist support at Spotify. ‘Silhouette’ opens up her next stage, with new songs that are ripe for wider discovery.
