Travel back to your childhood days with the lo-fi, retro video for ‘Connect 4’, the debut single from alt-pop duo PostLast—a.k.a. Julie Hough (HAVVK) and Stephen McHale (BARQ). Filmed by Eileen Timmons (bearprintmedia.com) and edited by James Byrne, the visual follows a tense game of Connect 4 between Julie and Stephen, intercut with colorful commercials from decades past.
“I’ve been told I’m very competitive when it comes to boardgames, so I’m glad that we are still friends. That’s what the song is about, after all,” Julie says of the video.
Stephen explains: “We played five games that day and a 4-1 thrashing was the overall result. This is the only one we filmed though, so the visual record paints a different picture!”
Released April 18th via Veta Records, ‘Connect 4’ is an upbeat escape into the joy and fragility of making friends as a grown-up. Graham Smyth selected the sunny single as his Track of the Week on RTÉ 2fm, and tastemakers Hot Press, Loud Women, GoldenPlec, She Makes Music, The Thin Air, RTE.ie, and The Vinyl District have all praised the effervescent debut.
Julie and Stephen first connected while completing a joint headline tour of Ireland and the UK in 2017 with their respective bands, HAVVK and BARQ. Over the past year they have been writing in secret, carefully preparing each element of their collaboration.
