Dublin alternative-rock duo Alpine Skies have released their deeply introspective debut album Inspired Conflicts.
Following praise from Simon Le Bon (Duran Duran) and Katy Krassner for their hypnotic debut release ‘By Your Side’, and continued acclaim for singles ‘Walls’, ‘Blockks’ and ‘A Long Way’, the duo step forward with their first full-length offering of evocative, layered songs shaped by wide skies, still landscapes, and inner journeys.
The band will formally launch the album with an unmissable show upstairs in Whelan’s, Dublin, on April 30th, with special guests to be announced. Tickets are on sale now, available from whelanslive.com
A band born through serendipity and sustained by sound, Alpine Skies (Kevin Homan and Darren Farrell), discovered an instant creative chemistry that would soon unfold into what is their debut album, ‘Inspired Conflicts’.
The band’s powerful debut single and album focus track, ‘By Your Side’, is step three of the ‘Inspired Conflicts’ journey. At its core, the song is a recognition of an end. Reverberating with a sense of finality, it draws from the feeling of pursuing something for so long, but realizing in time, that it is just not meant to be. Though it damages areas of your being, it catalyzes growth to begin, recognizing that realization after loss and despair.
‘Inspired Conflicts’ became a passion project after the duo’s chance meeting, which initially revolved around the idea of forming a cover band. However, Homan had no desire to pursue that path, and Farrell hadn’t yet had the opportunity to create original material. This conflict of interest ultimately inspired the launch of Alpine Skies and with that, debut album, ‘Inspired Conflicts’.
Across the album’s ten tracks, themes of conflict and inspiration carry throughout, shaped by both the internal and external struggles (conflicts) that help shape and guide (inspire) relationships and life. The tracklist itself not only represents this idea of conflict, but also how one can draw inspiration from its depths and remain inspired to return to centre – a sense of self, or a point of wellbeing.
The band explains, “Everyday decisions make and shape our lives, whether good, bad or intended, and everyday we make these decisions. The songs speak to these choices we make, but also try to display that not all that is negative (conflict) needs to be carried as a burden or guilt in life forever. Every decision is a decision made in good intention.”
