Post-funk artist Alex Fernet has announced the release of his new album ‘Modern Night‘ on 12th September via Bronson Recordings.
Today, we get a first taste of the new record with first single ‘Sunlight Vampires‘, where we are introduced to a character who returns throughout the entire album. Half-metaphor, half-ghost, this figure roams the album’s ten tracks, transforming nostalgia into a political act and melancholy into a form of resistance.
Alex explains: “‘Sunlight Vampires’ is a song dedicated to individuals often seen as unconventional, such as artists, dreamers, rebels, outcasts, and minorities. Our vulnerabilities can be our strengths, our controversies can serve as resources, and just like how poison can become an antidote, we can embrace our unique qualities. In this sunlit world, we are all vampires in our own way”.
Self-produced by Alex and mixed and mastered by Maurizio Baggio (Boy Harsher, The Soft Moon), ‘Modern Night‘ musically defies easy categorization. There are echoes of AOR radio ballads, post-industrial funk, and soul music stripped of optimism. Think of it as future nostalgia with dirt under its fingernails: a deeply contemporary work that rejects digital perfection in favor of analog imperfection. As Fernet puts it: “In an era of over-edited sound, the most radical act might be to let things breathe.”
