Championed by CLASH, RTÉ Radio 1, Steve Lamacq (BBC6 Music), Hot Press, The Thin Air and more, A.S. Fanning is the moniker of singer-songwriter Stephen Fanning. Grounded in the German capital since 2013 following the disbandment of The Last Tycoons, Fanning has forged a distinct solo career, drawing comparisons to Leonard Cohen, Scott Walker and Nick Cave with his ability to transform unease into hauntingly beautiful soundscapes. At the intersection of alternative rock, folk and psychedelia, he blends acoustic intimacy with subtle electronic flourishes to create a sound that is both timeless yet distinctly his own.
His latest album, Take Me Back To Nowhere – a record shaped by disorientation, fracture, and a fascination with the unstable nature of reality – has earned extensive praise since its February release, including RTÉ Radio 1, CLASH, Backseat Mafia, Under The Radar, and God Is In The TV.
This September sees Fanning’s cavernous, doom-laden croon rumble across venues nationwide, signalling a long-awaited return of one of Ireland’s most compelling underground voices.
