Desire/Johnny Jewel played their co-headline gig on Tuesday 21st May in the Button Factory, and it was one of the coolest gigs I’ve been to in a long time.
Jewel has scored some of my favourite films, including ‘Drive’ and ‘Bronson’, as well as cult favourites ‘Twin Peaks: The Return’ and ‘Lost River’.
His set was everything you would expect, dark, atmospheric, cinematic, note perfect, and all played in front of a giant screen showing key scenes from the films his music was used in.
He took to the stage again with Desire, and together they played one of the most energetic and visually captivating shows I’ve seen in a while.
Their set was non stop dream pop, with Megan Louise performing her set as if she was in a NWF movie of her own, incorporating her vocals and dancing around props such as a skull and telephone, not to mention ‘that outfit’.
It was cool, slick, sexy, entertaining, funny and just so so good, and highly recommended.
