R&B sensation Debbie – has released the single ‘Superwoman’

Debbie
has released ‘Superwoman’ – the latest confessional single in the South London R&B/soul artist’s new era.

On ‘Superwoman’, Debbie draws clear boundaries to protect her peace; no longer people pleasing and feeling pressured to save the day. The track opens with an outcry of pure frustration, “How many times are you gonna try? I’m not a superwoman, although I may be in your mind.”

The BRIT-nominated singer-songwriter said: “At the time of writing ‘Superwoman’, I had just changed my number, which was a super big deal for me as I had the same number all my life. I realised that in order to invite new love and open new doors, I needed to close old ones.”

Debbie added: “I found it impossible to set boundaries. Part of me felt like whenever my ex called, I had no choice but to answer. There’s a lyric where I say, ‘I better run from your demons before they take over my world’… that rings so true because being in their space took over my world every time. I’m not a superhero, I can’t save anyone. It’s fine to say ‘no’.”

Produced by Luis Navidad (who worked on Debbie’s summer single ‘Weight On Me’), ‘Superwoman’ kicks into a classic 90s inspired hip-hop beat, swathed in warm gospel-tinged harmonies – channeling the timelessness of Ms. Lauryn Hill’s records.

‘Superwoman’ is the latest single in Debbie’s new era as she continues to work on her anticipated debut album. Singles released so far this year – ‘‘The Rain Isn’t Over’, ‘‘Weight On Me’, and ‘More of You’ – show exactly why Debbie is one of Britain’s most compelling young soul voices. She shares her growing pains through vulnerable songwriting, creating a safe space of healing for listeners.

In a year that is all about growth and expanding her horizons; Debbie supported Sienna Spiro on her European tour, signed a new deal with Warner Records, and collaborated with Chase & Status on their single ‘Gone Too Far’. She released a COLORS SHOW performance of her powerful single ‘Weight On Me’ (watch here), performed on Sunday Brunch and teamed up with Adidas for The Stan Smith Residency in Paris (watch here). Her singles have garnered support from BBC Radio 1Xtra, Capital Xtra, Rolling Stone UK, CLASH, NME, MTV UK, Wonderland, Billboard UK, New Wave Magazine and Deeds. Stay tuned for more from Debbie.

This too shall pass. It’s just a minor tear.
