LA based Rocktronic pioneer Micah Martin has released his brand new single ‘VHS’, taken from his forthcoming debut album All I Need out November 20th via Create Music Group.
Grief for the person you used to be runs through ‘VHS’ and the pop-rocktronic cut is built around the memory of a past simpler world, how the daily pressures of life take over, and the wish to escape to those past times.
The nostalgic single is released today alongside a video cut with clips of family footage captured during Micah’s childhood. Present day Micah watches on, before the realities of the past and current worlds blur as he is drawn into the historic footage. The video has been directed by Guerilla McGavin (Zedd, Hardwell, Galantis).
Regarding ‘VHS’ Micah Martin says, “‘VHS’ is a letter to the kid I used to be. It’s about grieving the version of yourself that existed before life got so overwhelming and sometimes chaotic… before deadlines, expectations, and the weight of growing up. Sometimes I wish I could pull those memories off a shelf like an old VHS tape and spend one more day in a world that felt slower, simpler, and full of possibility. I think we’ve all had moments where we miss who we were just as much as where we were.”
‘VHS’ is a perfect pairing of Micah’s electronic and alternative worlds, where retro synths and electronic drums meet dark heavy bass and punk guitars alongside Micah’s wide-reaching reflective vocals.
The forthcoming All I Need sits at an intersection leading a thrilling collision between electronic bass music and rock, metal and punk. Few artists move credibly between those two scenes, and Micah has turned that rare dual fluency into his signature – the foundation of a Rocktronic sound he’s helped forge.
‘VHS’ follows the release of further singles from All I Need including the emotive pop punk of ‘Thrown Away’, the hair-raising screams and jump-up drum & bass of ‘Burn Them All (feat. OddKidOut)’, as well as ‘Tomorrow’s Over’, a blistering rocktronic track blending crushing metal riffs and brutal breakdowns made in collaboration with rocktronic peer HIGHSOCIETY.
All I Need is a cover-to-cover representation of Micah Martin, reflecting the punk, rock and metal worlds he came up in while bridging to his new world of electronic bass music, creating a unique soundscape in which he reigns supreme.
