Dublin rocker ALKY is back with new music, and more on his mind, in the form of ‘As You Were’.
ALKY explains that “‘As You Were’ is a swipe at the cultural extremes we see today, taking aim at MAGA and ‘woke’ culture in particular. The song also deals with the more messy, human stuff like sex, sin and Christianity, and the struggle for balance in a more meaningful way.”
‘As You Were’ lyrics
So you had a simple mind
Make yourself an island
Your silence like a gun
Chewing on your holy book
Disappear in the ointment
Your movement like a bug
And you know your place
Living on in spite of it
Feeling like you don’t belong
As you were, in learnt innocence
As you were, your beauty in barbed wire
A little on the heavy side
Try to fight the distance
From red lights and the vine
Your dirty flesh and crucifix
My needle in the bedroom
My universe
And you know your place
Living on in spite of it
Feeling like you don’t belong
As you were, in learnt innocence
As you were, your beauty in barbed wire
As you were, your learnt innocence
As you were, you never feel the same again
Blood on my hands
Calling out your name again
But by the grace of god
And the touch of your skin
The beauty in the suffering
As you were, in learnt innocence
As you were, your beauty in barbed wire
As you were, your learnt innocence
As you were, you’ll never feel the same again
