Fresh from releasing three singles already this year, Irish duo Driven Snow release I Wasn’t Looking For You today the latest track from their forthcoming second album, Mother of Christ, due early September 2026.
At its heart, I Wasn’t Looking For You is about the unexpected turns life can take. Swept along by events beyond your control, you look back and realise that, despite all the what-ifs, every moment led you to where you are now, and you wouldn’t change a thing.
Built around Emily’s rich vocals, the song gradually unfolds from a simple piano-led arrangement into something bigger and more powerful. As the percussion builds and the song gathers momentum, it mirrors the feeling of life moving steadily forward – unpredictable at times but carrying us towards the people and moments that matter most.
Driven Snow centres around husband-and-wife duo Kieran McGuinness and Emily Aylmer, whose musical careers grew from their respective roles in Delorentos and Republic of Loose. Their dreamy pop tunes and vocal harmonies grew out of songs penned late at night, while their three children were fast asleep. The couple took these moments of stillness and formed the foundation of their intimate sound.
“This is our biggest and most emotional song to date,” Kieran reflects. “And we struggled to understand how to make it work as a two-piece song. We needed to bring Tommy Mclaughlin (Producer), Geoff Warner-Clayton (Piano) and Lorcan Byrne (Drums) into the process to unlock it and now it’s one of our proudest moments and a real centrepiece of the album!”
Recorded and mixed by Tommy McLaughlin (Villagers, Soak, Altan, Ailbhe Reddy) at his Attica Studios base in the wilds of Donegal, and mastered by Richard Dowling (WAV Mastering), the single lays the groundwork for forthcoming studio album Mother of Christ, alongside already released singles Dawn Chorus, Knots and Slowly, Gently.
The band’s 2024 debut album, A Kind of Dreaming, was met with widespread acclaim and described as “Sublime” (Irish Times), “Bewitching” (Irish Independent), and “An album to luxuriate in” (Hot Press). Coverage and features in Sunday Times Magazine, Irish Independent and Hot Press Magazine, alongside national playlists on RTÉ and BBC NI, saw the duo’s audience grow steadily across Ireland, the UK, Europe and as far afield as the USA, Canada, South Africa and Mexico.
Accessible, honest and deeply felt, Mother of Christ is set to unfold like an open diary you’ve been trusted to hold. To celebrate the album’s release, Driven Snow will embark on a nationwide Irish tour this autumn, bringing this new collection of songs to audiences across the country.
