English indie rock and bedroom pop artist Cavetown brought the Running With Scissors tour to a sold-out Academy in Dublin last night, delivering an emotional and energetic performance that had fans fully immersed from the very first note.
The stage setup added a playful yet intimate feel to the show, featuring giant inflatables and a raised platform for Robin Skinner, while the drummer sat right at the edge of the stage alongside bandmates switching between bass, piano, and guitar. Despite the venue being packed, the arrangement created a surprisingly close connection between the band and the audience.
Cavetown’s music thrives on emotional contrast, and the live performance captured that perfectly. Soft, warm arpeggios would suddenly give way to darker basslines, while whispers would build into powerful, cathartic screams. Skinner’s voice stretched effortlessly across the set, showing both vulnerability and impressive range. The crowd matched that intensity, singing every lyric back from the opening song — something Robin himself paused to acknowledge, commenting on the crowd’s incredible energy right from the start.
Supporting the night was Dreamer Isioma, a Nigerian-American singer-songwriter and genre-blending artist from Chicago. Bringing vibrant energy and a unique sound, Dreamer Isioma set the tone for the night perfectly and had the crowd fully warmed up before Cavetown took the stage.
From the colourful visuals to the passionate crowd singalongs, the night felt both uplifting and deeply personal — a reminder of how powerful Cavetown’s music can be when shared live with a room full of devoted fans.
