Fresh off the back of a successful debut with singles ‘Everyday Life’ and ‘Cash Machine’, Irish artist Honas paves the way for his next double release ‘Icy Blue’ and ‘Someone of a Kind’ on today via Mount Silver Records. Honas has millions of streams through a previous collaboration with German producer LO and was tipped as one to watch in 2024 by both the Irish Times and the Irish Independent; this set of a-sides solidifies him as a connoisseur of modern pop.
‘Icy Blue’ was written after a 2021 trip to Canada filled with car journeys and ‘80s tunes, and so the euphoric chorus takes inspiration from Don Henley’s classic ‘Boys of Summer’. ‘Someone of a Kind’ is tender by comparison, with a warmth and intimacy to it reminiscent of Andy Shauf.
Honas says of ‘Someone of a Kind’: “This is a song about attachment. We attach ourselves to other things and people. You see yourself in them. The more love you give them the more love you feel. When you let them down you let yourself down. When you’re apart, you’re incomplete. You don’t want them to die, because a part of you goes with them.”
A unique childhood with a diverse cultural exposure birthed Honas’ ability to craft tender, intimate vocals and emotionally charged lyrics into tracks that effortlessly transform into irresistibly catchy earworms. Growing up along the rugged Irish coastline, speaking the Irish language and spending some childhood years living in Guyana, South America moulded Honas’ musical identity.
After joining Lisa Hannigan, Saint Sister and Nealo at the musical pilgrimage and performance that is Hibernacle in 2020, Honas spent the next years working behind the scenes, honing his craft and collaborating on projects such as songwriter and vocals for the 2022 Google Year in Search video, gaining almost 300 million views as well as his song ‘Control’ with German producer LO amassing 20 million streams to date. Honas’ sonic evolution was guided by experiences in studios across London, Berlin and Vienna alongside acclaimed producers (The 1975, Inhaler, Interpol, Florence & the Machine, La Roux, Warpaint and The Killers).
