One of the most exciting names in Irish music right now, 49th & Main, brought their World Tour home to a sold-out Vicar Street on Saturday night, marking a major milestone in what has been another breakout year for the Kilkenny duo. Fresh off a run of international dates and a string of high-energy releases, Paddy King and Ben O’Sullivan arrived in Dublin with the confidence of a group riding some serious momentum.
Known nationwide now for their brilliant live show, the duo have built a reputation on making electronic music that thrives beyond the studio. Plucky synth lines and heavy bass transformed Vicar Street into a full-on club for the night. Recent release LIVE 4 THE WEEKEND was one of the night’s highlights, drawing a huge reaction from a crowd, who were already well-versed in the duo’s catalogue.
The track’s glossy, early 2010’s EDM sound triggers a healthy dose of nostalgia while still feeling firmly rooted in the band’s current direction. Every time I catch 49th & Main on home turf, the energy somehow hits a new high.
