HAVVK’s – new album ‘To Fall Asleep’ out now ahead of launch night at The Workmans Club Cellar, Dublin

The things that keep us awake at night—checking the clock, fretfully changing position in bed, endlessly scrolling on our phones—are invariably tied to what happens during the day. Julie Hawk, bassist and lead vocalist of Dublin trio HAVVK, found this to be true when she battled bouts of insomnia that eventually inspired the band’s third album, To Fall Asleep, out today, 15th March, 2024 via VETA Records. They’ve also shared the driving focus track ‘Strong Possibility’.

“I was waking up with an unshakable feeling of urgency, like I was forgetting something and then letting my thoughts spiral for hours. Sleep was something I had always taken for granted, so at first this felt like a huge betrayal from my body. But it wasn’t really. Actually, it was my body trying to tell me something. I had to really listen to it, and  examine how honestly I was living my life, and how much energy I was giving to things that I didn’t have the capacity for,” Hawk says.

With To Fall Asleep, HAVVK have crafted a tumultuous rollercoaster ride of anxiety, paranoia, and the longing for reconnection, soundtracked by harder edges and sharper hooks than ever before. Focus track ‘Strong Possibility’ challenges us to take back power and illustrates the hypocrisy of people who judge others. There’s a rumbling quality to the song, punctuated by the gutsy sing-spoken lyrics.
