Today, and ahead of a run of UK/EU dates, Southern California six-piece Dutch Interior share new single ‘Ecig (UK Version)‘ via Fat Possum. The band’s label debut for Fat Possum, Moneyball, arrived earlier this year, with praise from Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Perfectly Imperfect, Stereogum, The Fader, DIY, Clash and more. The band makes their UK debut at End of the Road and Manchester Psych Fest this September, alongside more headline UK and European dates including a stopover at the George Tavern on September 4th in London (sold out).
Dutch Interior’s knack for repurposing and reimagining speaks to their own forever oscillating creative vision where the music is constantly evolving from its original form. Ecig (UK Version) holds up this example: the other side of the coin from the band’s original recordings of introductory single Ecig, now abounding with it’s own elongated sharpness and sense of heightened focus. Lead vocalist Conner Reeves’ incantation weaves a fuzzed-out spell of harrowing longing, spilling over into rhythmic intensity. It’s a crucial adaptation of a fan-favourite that has always existed within the lore of the band.
On the new song, Dutch Interior say – “Ecig lives in nonlinear memory somewhere between recent details and a blurry past“
And on the video, they offer – “flairs of nostalgia still peak through the death of our innocence. grab them and let yourself sit in a life that may actually have been better. we are only human, eh”
