New gig poster series celebrates iconic Teenage Cancer Trust gigs at the Royal Albert Hall
A specially-commissioned new series of gig posters celebrates some of the iconic bands who have played Teenage Cancer Trust’s concerts at the Royal Albert Hall over the last 24 years.
The posters have been created by dozens of artists from across the world, and feature bands including The Who, Robert Plant, The Cure and New Order.
The new prints celebrate The Who frontman Roger Daltrey CBE’s 24 years as curator of the shows. Daltrey, who is also Teenage Cancer Trust’s Honorary Patron, is stepping back from the role after this year, with the baton to be passed over to a series of guest curators.
Micky England, Senior Product Manager for Music and Entertainment at Teenage Cancer Trust, said: “Since 2000 our Honorary Patron Roger Daltrey CBE has curated one of the most iconic annual gig series in the British entertainment industry calendar. These posters celebrate some of incredible performances from over that 24-year period.”
Pete McKee has created posters for the Royal Albert Hall gigs every year since 2013, and the exhibition includes his designs for Noel Gallagher, Wet Legand Nile Rodgers among others.
He said: “The Teenage Cancer Trust concerts are very special gigs – it’s a unique venue and the bands go out of their way to make the gigs memorable. I think fans appreciate the opportunity to immortalise that memory with a poster- plus there’s the added bonus of contributing to the wonderful charity!”
2,600 young people a year are diagnosed with cancer, with this number set to rise. Cancer rates in young people in the UK have gone up by a quarter since the early 1990s. And by 2030, it’s projected that the number of young people living with a cancer diagnosis will be 65% higher.
Each young person who is diagnosed with cancer will need specialist age-appropriate nursing care and support to get them through it. Teenage CancerTrust is the only UK charity dedicated to meeting this vital need.
Money raised from the sale of the prints will help to provide tailored care and support designed specifically for young people with cancer. Each design will be accompanied by an autographed edition, also available from teenagecancertrust.org/gig-posters.
