London-based slacker-country band vegas water taxi return with their most emotionally rich and sharp witted work yet with a new EP, long time caller, announced today ahead of an Oct 3rd release on PNKSLM Recordings.
The EP is announced with new single ‘chateau photo‘, a gently devastating alt-country gem. Here frontman Ben Hambrois in full storytelling form, exploring social isolation, breakup paranoia, and the weird dislocation of modern love with humour, charm, and twang. The track is a clear encapsulation of Hambro’s intention when starting vegas water taxi to write songs “as honest and as painful as they need to be”. The single arrives with a self-directed music video that follows Hambro through a slyly poignant visual, as he’s exiled from a surreal house party. Steering the project’s visual world with the same offbeat charm and authenticity that defines his songwriting, Hambro’s wide reaching artistic talent are showcased.
Hambro says of the track: “This song is about the moment of realisation that you’ve been replaced or excommunicated from a social group after a break up. Obviously it happened when I saw a photo on instagram. It’s a bit of a double edged sword – it obviously hurts quite a lot, but there’s a sense of freedom that comes with it as well. It’s also just part of life, friends come and go, and often come back into your life again. Musically I think I was aiming for Oasis meets Silver Jews – think we nailed it.”
