Irish indie outfit Dylan Flynn & the Dead Poets to release reflective new single “The Story After They’re Gone” on 13.03.2024

2023 was a big year for Dylan Flynn & The Dead Poets, seeing the group release their debut album and take on their biggest tours to date, which saw them play dates in Limerick, Galway, Belfast, London, as well as sold out shows in Cork and Dublin. The Indie up-and-comers have gained almost 1,000,000 streams on Spotify, and secured support slots with acts such as NewDad, Milk, and Kingfishr. The 5-piece, who blend elements of Jangle-Pop and Alt-Rock, take influence from artists such as The War on Drugs, Bon Iver, Radiohead, and Tom Petty.

The band, who all met while at college in Limerick, Ireland, make music for twenty-somethings living in a country that completely ignores them. The Indie-Rock outfit have been gaining recognition in the Irish music scene for their energetic live shows, and self-produced releases, which have been heard across major radio stations such as Today FM, Amazing Radio, RTE 2FM, and BBC ATL, and featured in Hot Press, The Last Mixed Tape and Indie Buddie.

‘The Story After They’re Gone’ combines Alt-Country textures with the bands already established Indie-Rock sound, to create what the band call Indie-Twang. The song follows a stream of consciousness story line where the narrator ponders his life after losing everyone around him. The track opens with softly picked guitar, that is contrasted with an up-tempo drum beat to mirror the idea of someone’s mind spiralling. As the track progresses, swirling pedal steel and saxophone are sprinkled throughout.

Flynn – “When thinking about how we wanted our new stuff to sound, the idea of leaning into Country music kept coming up. We had used a lot of slide guitar, 12-strings, and acoustics before, so it felt like a natural progression. I think this track feels like how we play live, and that’s definitely a theme of our next project.”

The track was written, recorded and self-produced from the bands small studio space in Limerick City, with long term collaborator from Mike Gavin (Windings). Mike co-produced and mixed the track, while Richard Dowling (Foo Fighters, Brian Eno, Villagers) mastered it.
