W.A.S.P / Tailgunner – live gallery and review from The National Stadium Dublin 22.07.2025

W.A.S.P. fans in Dublin were in for a treat as the legendary shock rockers descended upon the National Stadium for their “Album One Alive” tour. This highly anticipated show promised a deep dive into the band’s iconic debut album, played in its entirety, alongside a selection of their greatest hits, and that’s exactly what was delivered.

Before the gig began, there was an overwhelming sense of sadness from the crowd of metal fans, both seasoned and new, as the news of Ozzy Osbournes passing spread quickly throughout the crowd. Almost immediately, the PA system started blasting out Black Sabbath songs while everyone remembered the legacy of The Prince of Darkness himself. Although a sad day for metal music and its loyal fans, there also seemed to be a comforting feeling that everyone was together at the moment the news broke, and where else would you want to be other than at a metal gig for another legendary band, surrounded by your peers.

Kicking off the night with a burst of high-octane energy were Tailgunner. This UK five-piece brought a youthful, frenetic, and undeniably old-school charm to the stage. Their performance was a whirlwind of classic metal influences, delivered with boundless enthusiasm. Blistering guitar solos, a powerhouse vocalist, and a rock-solid rhythm section had the crowd warmed up and ready. Tailgunner’s infectious energy easily over even those unfamiliar with their work, proving themselves as a band that lives and breathes rock ‘n’ roll. They were the perfect opener to get the adrenaline pumping before the main event and have, over the last year, become one of my favourite bands to shoot.

As the lights dimmed and the iconic imagery of W.A.S.P. takes over, the atmosphere in the National Stadium was electric. Blackie Lawless, flanked by the seasoned talents of Mike Duda on bass, Doug Blair on lead guitar, and the phenomenal Aquiles Priester on drums, lead the charge.
The “Album One Alive” concept is a dream come true for long-time fans. Hearing their groundbreaking debut album played from start to finish was a truly immersive experience, a nostalgic journey back to the raw, visceral sound that defined W.A.S.P. in the 80s. Every track was delivered with precision and the signature W.A.S.P. theatricality, complete with a visually stunning light show and stage setup reminiscent of their classic era (not to mention Blackies iconic mic stand).
Beyond the debut album, W.A.S.P. unleashed a barrage of their most beloved anthems, including “I Wanna Be Somebody,” “L.O.V.E. Machine,” and “Wild Child.” Blackie’s commanding stage presence and powerful vocals, which seem to defy the passage of time, held the Dublin crowd in the palm of his hand.

While W.A.S.P. has evolved over the decades, their live shows retain that unique blend of raw power, provocative imagery, and undeniable musical prowess. This concert isn’t just a performance; it’s a celebration of a band that has left an indelible mark on heavy metal history. For anyone seeking a dose of classic shock rock and a night filled with high-energy, legendary tunes, the W.A.S.P. gig in Dublin on July 22, 2025, was an unforgettable experience.
