Mary Coughlan will share her new single ‘Lumberjack (feat, Ultan Conlon)’ on Tuesday the 8th of July via Strange Brew.
Mary Coughlan is one of Ireland’s greatest ever jazz and blues artists, and is often spoken about in the same breath as singers like Peggy Lee and Billie Holiday.
This striking new single sees Coughlan team up with acclaimed singer-songwriter Ultan Conlon. A dusky, slow burning duet, ‘Lumberjack’ blends folk melodies with jazz undertones, creating a moody and intimate atmosphere that is deeply personal.
Mary says: “The first time I heard Ultan singing the song, it broke my heart. My granddaughter said it was more beautiful than a unicorn singing! I asked Ultan if I could sing it — and he asked me for a gig!”
Speaking of gigs, Mary will mark 40 years at the heart of Irish music with a spectacular one-night-only Greatest Hits show at the Heineken® Big Top at this year’s Galway International Arts Festival on July 23rd.
Mary’s unmistakable voice and raw, emotional storytelling have made her a legend – and nowhere more than in her native Galway, where her journey began.
Joined by her full band, enhanced with a sweeping string and brass section, Mary will reimagine four decades of her most powerful songs – from the smoky jazz of The Double Cross to the heart-wrenching beauty of Invisible to You. Expect a night of soul, blues and fearless honesty from a performer who has lived every note she sings.
‘Lumberjack (feat. Ultan Conlon)’ is taken from the critically acclaimed album, Repeat Rewind – released in October 2024.
