C Turtle share new single ‘Melvin Said This’ – New album ‘Expensive Thrills’ out in March

Today C Turtle share new single ‘Melvin Said This‘, taken from their upcoming album Expensive Thrills, arriving March 8th on Blitzcat Records. From head to toe the record bursts with influences spanning the epochs of grunge, alternative rock and indie – from Pixies, Pavement and some of the bands that came through the iconic New Zealand label Flying Nun Records in the 80s/90s like 3Ds and The Clean – yet with an effortless modern zeal that has C Turtle standing head and shoulders with other contemporary trailblazers in bar italia and Lime Garden.

Melvin Said This, premiered last night via The New Music Fix on BBC 6music,continues to find C Turtle converting underground hype into indie rock eminence while showcasing the enchanting partnership of Cole Flynn Quirke and Mimi McVeigh in their exchange of dizzying riffs and tongue-in-cheek lyrics, weaving around each other with an unspoken ease. The band will headline Corsica Studios, London, on March 14th.

Quirke says of the new single: “Melvin is the outcome of us trying to blend our twee indie rock influences like The Clean and the Vaselines with more dissonant rock and roll like Brainiac. It’s probably the rockiest and fastest song on the album and we all love playing it live the most out of any tracks on the record

Mercurial and moody, C Turtle’s sound is a kind of oozing fuzzy-jumper rock that’s as much about slickly spun lyrical poetry and unfiltered emotion, as it is fractal riffs and howling feedback whining at your heels.

Expensive Thrills unfurls a handsome union of existential reflection and observation that humanity is seemingly going backwards – with a retro sonic ocean of Loveless-drenched feedback (‘Expensive Thrills‘), school of Malkmus-lo-fi (‘How Many Birds’) and a handsome crunch on the guitars.
