Mary Coughlan has shared a new single ‘Freefalling (feat. Ultan Conlan)’ today, Wednesday 19th March 2025 via Strange Brew.
The single is taken from her recently-released album, Repeat Rewind, which the Financial Times commented was laden with “Fleeting encounters and irresistible hooks” and prompted The Irish Times to observe that “Mary Coughlan just gets better and better” when they named it in their Top 5 Jazz Albums of 2024. Repeat Rewind was also RTÉ Radio 1’s Album of the Week upon release and was named John Creedon’s Album of the Year.
‘Freefalling’ sees Coughlan team up with frequent collaborator Ultan Conlan for this lighthearted and endearing duet that nonetheless shines a light on topics that consume many of our day-to-day lives: making up, breaking up, breaking down and most importantly falling in love again.
Mary Coughlan is one of Ireland’s greatest ever jazz and blues artists, and is often spoken about in the same breath as singers like Peggy Lee and Billie Holiday. Over 40 years, she has made the most grown-up, uncompromising, wholly personal yet utterly universal music about what goes on between men and women.
