‘THREADS’ OUT JULY 26th
Anemoia began on a bedroom floor in 2019, started by 16-year-old Gerald Higgins in Co. Mayo. Taking early inspiration from artists like A.R Kane, My Bloody Valentine & Current Joys, The band released their debut album ‘Driving Songs’, a necessary Shoegaze portfolio of Roland TR-505 loops & ethereal looped guitar pieces; all created between 2019-2021. An amateur approach of scaling their sound and stamping a presence before developing further.
After garnering a niche success on Soundcloud the soundscape developed as it turned into a 4-Piece band in October of 2022, residing in Dublin. Selling out their debut show in the Workman’s Cellar that very month, they have gone on to support many reputable Dublin acts and have had the honour of headlining venues across the city, featuring at ‘2024 Whelan’s One to Watch’ and selling out their previous show at the same location. With their latest single ‘crutch’ released in November of 2023, Anemoia has more planned for 2024, redirecting their Wall-of-Sound, integrating Slacker & Noise Rock qualities, with lyrical inspiration from film, poetry, tales of grief and the human condition.
ABOUT THE TRACK
To reel the audience in, a song has moments to prove itself. The upcoming single from Anemoia ‘threads’ is a bold Alternative/Shoegaze track that pushes the band’s boundaries with its enveloping noise and stirring arrangement, whilst enthralling the listener quicker than you can skip.
Written over an evening (in guitarist Robert Cloughley’s house), there was an intention to create a build-up that would stamp a new mark in this fusion of Noise Rock, heavily inspired by the current underground Shoegaze scene in the USA with bands like Blue Smiley and Glare. Produced & Mixed in Sonic Studios by Janksy, the exact sinister scale of the song was captured identically to the emotive live performances.
A refrain introduction of ‘I will sew’ removes any expectations had before the song peaks, integrating dissonant sounds, strumming the Vibrato Unit on the Jazzmaster and toying with delay pedals. Based on 3 chords, and telling a first-person journey of an ambiguous yearning, the structure of ‘threads’ may seem formulaic, but subverts the ear with layers of chorus and reverberation, creating an ethereal word painting. A pulsing and complex drum pattern played by Matt Richards carries the song to its grimacing climax.
‘Threads’ the next single from Anemoia is due to be released on July 26th on all streaming platforms and is only an opener to what is yet to come from the band.
