3Head – announce the new album ‘You Are More Beautiful’ + share the track ‘Forrest Hill’

3HEAD, the diverse, multi-cultural collective of independently recognised musicians announce the release of the album ‘You Are More Beautiful’ on 14th November on Creation Youth. Today they share lead track ‘Forrest Hill’.

3Head’s founder Al Macaulay (Producer/Drums/Keys – Tindersticks/Cousteau/Scott4), describes ‘Forest Hill’ as, ”innocence amongst the concrete, psychedelic but dancey, faux naive but heartfelt. Wah wah, conga driven pre House.”

Alongside Macaulay, 3Head comprise Calina de la Mare (Violinist/Composer – Tindersticks, Cast, Nerina Pallot, Barry Adamson) and Ras B (Vocals/Toasting – Faultline, The Bug, On u Sound). Macaulay met De La Mare while touring as the drummer with his previous band Tindersticks. “I invited her down to jam on some ideas,” Macaulay recalls. “I thought that no one uses electric violin with heavy bass music and that it would sound interesting! It Did! We used to jam a lot and had a studio for years in Brixton. The band formed by accident there as there was a Reggae studio above us In Loughborough Junction and the MCs used to drop in for a smoke. I got to know a couple of them very well, they started to toast on the beats I was making and I liked it! But then our two singers got put away in Holloway and Ford Open respectively, also the Reggae studio shut down so we were stuck for a while. Then our ex-guitarist introduced us to his mate Ras B, who came and road tested us and luckily it worked out!”

The album ‘You Are More Beautiful’ was recorded at Youth’s Space Mountain studio in August 2024. On working with Youth, Macaulay says, “The album needed guitar and some bass as I’d only done midi bass on some songs, so apart from being a producer who we thought would understand our music (heavy bass, tribal but also with strings), he was ideal to fill in those gaps.”

Other collaborators on the album include Spider Johnson (Vocals/Toasting – Madness, UB40, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry), who guests on 3 tracks as co-vocalist, Lara Basakinci (Vocals), Sarah Wilson (cello – Belle and Sebastian) and Lucy Wilkins (Roxy Music) and Sophie Sirota (Paul Weller, Kim Deal).
