Wrex – have announced the release of their EP ‘Sadworld’ + release new single ‘Paranoia’

Rising Brighton-based duo, WREX, have just announced the release of their long-awaited EP! SADWORLD will be released on 20th May, and spans 5 rip-roaring tracks exploring some pretty dark themes. These include uncertainty, anxiety and self-doubt, but glimmers of hopefulness and optimism are threaded throughout. Pre-save SADWORLD here.

Reflecting on their journey, vocalist Mae shares, “The last year has been about getting out there and pushing ourselves – playing as much as we can, meeting people, and feeling that connection in real time. We’ve played 54 shows over the last year, and that’s completely changed our perspective. This project started with two people and a laptop, so being in those rooms night after night has forced us out of our own heads, stripped something back, and let the songs take on a different weight once they’re shared with other people. This EP is about taking our personal experiences and opening them up in a way that other people can identify with. Our prior writing was very focused on the self; SADWORLD is more of a reflection on the impact of the world in its current state, and on the community”.

WREX have also today released their brand new single, Paranoia, alongside the official music video. The band handed the creative reins over for the first time for the making of this video, and let award-winning director/DP Dogbrain (Wargasm, South Arcade) step in. Paranoia will join the previously released explosive, Consume on the EP.

Paranoiaas its title suggests, is about being trapped inside your own head, with little but poisonous thoughts for company. “It’s like everybody’s always looking at me and the voices in my head, they won’t stop”, spits Seaton amongst a swirl of serrated post-hardcore guitars and glitching electronics. ‘I know I find it hard to maintain a sane brain / But it’s hard to believe that you could be so cold, so cold.” Guitarist/vocalist, Donoghue notes that the song was written in reverse, building from the track’s closing lyric, “Don’t try to save me, just pull the cord”. In opening the EP, it serves as a stark introduction to SADWORLD’s exploration of themes of trauma, escape, and how the wounds we carry manifest.
