Tri Being itcallsme i – Releases Debut EP ‘CHARCOAL’ Exploring Rave & Ritual & new single ‘Colony’, you can read our review here

Stockholm’s mysterious three-part entity itcallsme i return with Charcoal, a five track EP that dives deep into hunger in all its forms, obsession, devotion, temptation, self-destruction, and the raw instinct to survive. Dark, intense, and emotionally charged, the project builds an atmosphere that feels both intimate and unsettling. Following the release of three standout singles “Weight,” “Ugly,” and the most recent “Colony”. Charcoal offers a compelling glimpse into the artists shadowy creative world. Each track pulls listeners further into its gripping narrative, making this EP a haunting and memorable exploration of desire and survival.

“Colony” is a powerful and emotional track that blends personal longing with the wider cultural history of the Philippines’ colonial past. The song captures feelings of obsession, loss, and the deep desire to reconnect with identity and heritage. Its lyrics and atmosphere create a sense of urgency, reminding listeners of what has been taken through colonization. More than just a song, “Colony” feels like a call to action, encouraging people to reclaim their history, voice, and pride. It is both reflective and empowering, leaving a strong and lasting impression on the listener.

“Weight” is a raw and haunting track that dives deep into the darker sides of loyalty, obsession, and emotional survival. It captures the kind of hunger that feels almost primal, where connection becomes both a need and a burden. The song moves through shadows of mental health, revealing scars, inner battles, and the desperation to be understood. Its intensity feels honest rather than polished, giving every lyric a sense of urgency. Written from a place of survival, “Weight” screams the truths people often hide, creating something deeply vulnerable, powerful, and impossible to ignore.

‘UGLY’ a dark and immersive track that explores the moment when control fades and temptation takes over. Built on haunting electronica, the song creates an intimate yet unsettling atmosphere that pulls the listener deep into its emotional core. The production feels raw and hypnotic, reflecting the surrender to desire and the loss of restraint described by the artist. itcallsme i captures a vulnerable, almost primal state where shame disappears and instinct takes over. ‘UGLY’ is both haunting and captivating, leaving a lasting impression through its intensity and emotional honesty.

itcallsme i embodies a layered being of three forces, conceptually not unaligned with Freud’s model of the psyche and the notion of coexisting selves, each pulling, clashing, and converging to form a singular, complex, and deeply human identity.

it, the aggressive, fearless feminine force within. Dark, unpredictable, and chaotic, she embodies raw, violent power and morbid beauty. Unsettlingly masked with an intense presence.

me, a sorrowful, wise spirit. Emotional and expansive, carrying depth and universality. The character with the constant sad face.

i, the mysterious human architect behind it all…

Drawing from underground club culture and the stark intensity of Fever Ray and Aphex Twin, CHARCOAL blends hip-hop, pop hooks, and bass-heavy rave into something chaotic, visceral, and deeply personal. Shaped by Filipino heritage, it weaves in subtle ancestral and tribal elements, touching on generational weight and the legacy of the Colonial history of the Philippines.
