total tommy – shares new single ‘Winona Forever’

total tommy today releases new single Winona Forever – out now on Play It Again Sam.A punchy, emotionally charged ode to home, identity and connection – the new single follows recent comeback Pretty Little Mouth. Written in just four hours on her final day writing in London the song captures the disorientation of distance and life lived across time zones.

On Winona Forever, total tommy says – 

“There’s a picture of Winona Ryder that I’d seen where she’s on a bike outside a block of high rise buildings, and the imagery of that inspired me so much of how small we all are in the expanse of a city. How it’s easy to lose your identity when you’re not surrounded by the people who really know you, and how we subconsciously shape shift to fit our environments.”

When writing these new songs, total tommy would listen to demos she’d made on her trip to London, jot down notes, watch movies and find pockets of inspiration. A time for reflection and refinement, nurturing what she wanted the new material to be. The travel – finding her take off and landing songs, pretending she was in a movie – as well as periods of solitude while in London, like walking from her temporary home in Hackney to the central London studio, emitted such incandescent nostalgia that the album became a force beyond reality, built from a burgeoning love of cinema – especially from the 1990s, and especially the filmography of Winona Ryder.
