Symphonic metal pioneers THERION reveal a live video for “The Ruler of Tamag”, ahead of the release of their highly anticipated live album Con Orquesta, dropping as a physical release this Friday, January 30, 2026, via Napalm Records! Originally released on the band’s latest album Leviathan III (2023), “The Ruler of Tamag” has been impactfully reimagined in collaboration with the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de México.
17 years after their last monumental orchestral concerts in Romania (2006) and Hungary (2007), THERION made history in 2024 by playing their first arena show, performing live with a full orchestra to an audience of 11,000 fans at Mexico City Arena. Con Orquestra captivates this powerful performance and is available to pre-order as a physical live album and on DVD/BluRay. Christofer Johnsson on “The Ruler of Tamag”:
“‘Ruler of Tamag’ is the strongest track on our latest release and this song was pretty much made for performing with an orchestra. And it was also musically one of the best performances of that mighty evening in Mexico. For me personally it is also one of the tracks I enjoy the most to play live.”
Christofer Johnsson about Con Orquesta:
“In the past, our concept was more like THERION going classical, with the band and the symphonic orchestra meeting on an equal basis. Thus, we did a fully orchestral version of one song and it was divided almost 50/50 between playing THERION songs and classical excerpts being rearranged for band and orchestra. This time, however, I wanted to take a different approach. I invited a renowned conductor and composer from Mexico to reinterpret our songs by adding new arrangements and expanding the originals with the orchestra. They also wrote some new intros and small interludes, making this a truly authentic Mexican interpretation of THERION live with orchestra.”
