The Ocelots – have shared their new EP ‘Revisions’

Coming towards the end of their mammoth 3 month tour of Australia, The Ocelots have made space to release a 5 track EP – Revisions.   As the name suggests it is, in the bands own words –  “A redoing of things – an attempt to bring the old songs into the present day, a gift to our younger selves from the future and a bridge into album three”

‘Revisions’ showcases five new songs, recorded in Leipzig, Germany during the summer of 2025. Crafted in the brothers small rehearsal space studio, The Ocelots experiment with new ideas like layered flute harmonies, intimate vocals, and richer, bolder piano and drum sounds. Working with long-time collaborators Cillian & Lorcan Byrne on mixing, bass and percussion, twins Ashley & Brandon find a segue between albums 2 and 3 by updating songs written nearly a decade ago.

“Every day spent recording these songs felt so necessary, more like unfinished business than distracted indulgence. We had a clearer emphasis on the sounds that our tastes were driving towards. If these songs have been our home for the last ten years, ‘Revisions’ is very much a DIY attempt at refurbishment. They were ram shackled and well-lived-in to begin with.

Most of these songs were written, in fact, in a shoddy apartment that had once been an old nun’s convent. The taps didn’t work. The windows were mouldy, and the kettle was so broken it started tripping the fuse. When we started to bring the kettle between different rooms to make a cup of tea, we thought it was time to tidy the place up a bit. (Or, in the case of living in this apartment, packing it all up and moving to Germany.)

‘Motor Hotel’ had never even been recorded, despite having performed it at every live show for years, because we couldn’t embrace the tempo shift in the chorus. ‘Gold’ was supposed to sound in the world of Midnight Cowboy, but we didn’t have the resources or know-how to execute that arrangement. We arrived at our rehearsal space in Leipzig every day, trying to fix these nearly decade-old leaks and cracks. “

The band Initially released the EP late in 2025 via a private link from their Newsletter because they thought of this release already as a fan service.   “Our successful Kickstarter in 2023 afforded us a couple of mics and recording equipment. We had finished a huge tour in 2025 and had the time and resources to give these songs the time they deserved. The artwork was created with Anca Tintea using scans of school revision paper.  Anca’s visual representation of the songs tied the whole thing together. It represents a falling down the rabbit hole, 8 years of touring, songwriting, repetition, and dedication to your own cause. ‘Revisions’ may even have been a DIY botch job, but we’re delighted that the songs are still here and we’ve been able to give a new life to them.”
