The Aces have announced their new record Gold Star Baby, to be released on 15th August via SoundOn. In concept, Gold Star Baby is a metaphorical club in every city where if you know…you know. Disco-pop that fills the Pussycat Dolls and Spice Girls shaped holes in our hearts, The Aces narrate the perfect night out, even if it’s just a glittery mirage of escapism. A celebration of queerness and pure pop fun, the largely self-produced album isn’t just an evolution for the 4-piece, but where they’ve been headed all along
We also see the release of ‘You Got Me’, the swooning, star-crossed third single from the album. The Aces look for the exact words to let someone know they’re head over heels for them. And by the end, they can’t help but repeat “I love you, babe” no matter the consequences
The band shared: “This song is about that short and sweet period of time when you realize you’re in love but you’re not sure how to tell them. We wanted it to sound like the feeling of falling in love; warm, shimmery, bouncy and a little bit of nerves.”
‘The Magic’ is The Aces “most confident single yet” (DORK), and with ‘Jealous’ and ‘You Got Me’ as their followup releases, they cement that they have no qualms with being the coolest ones in the room. Continuing to reach new pop heights, the band is rapidly becoming one of the genre’s most exciting and authentic voices.
If their 2023 album I’ve Loved You For So Long is the backstory behind discovering their identity, Gold Star Baby is in turn a celebration of showing up as the best version of yourself. It’s the same feeling as hitting the town with your closest group of friends, with the perfect buzz going, in the new outfit you’ve been scheming up to command any room you’re in. The Aces are able to shed the weight of the painful transparency they put into their last record and allow listeners to see the liberated other side of the coin.
