Swedish heavy weights Thrown have announced the release of their highly anticipated debut album EXCESSIVE GUILT.
With a max track timing at 2:38 and nothing longer, Thrown are like the Swedish hardcore metal version of 80’s English punk! Track 8 titled “Ignored” on their new Album Excessive Guilt, comes in at exactly 1 minute long.
The words of a Tommy Ramone come to mind : “We play short songs and short sets for people who don’t have a lot of spare time”.
Well for sure it’s true here, and if you don’t have the time, well then “Excessive Guilt” is the perfect album for you to indulge your ear holes. EXCESSIVE GUILT, is out today via Arising Empire.
I seen on Reddit, one member saying “Band Thrown is going to hit 1mil monthly listeners this week, It’s absolutely nuts. I love those guys so im happy for them”.
Checking just now, and it’s grown. Thrown are now at 1.4Million monthly listeners. An incredible feat for a band that has yet to release a full length album. And the speculations online is that maybe they are paying for these high streams, or that they have cracked the code for the algorithms. Either way, they seem to be making it work for themselves and have taken the stage by storm, touring with the likes of Knocked Loose, Fit For A King, Emmure, Counterparts and many more massive artists throughout North America, Europe and Australia.
Having a Sub 20 minute long album is nostalgic for me, but is 20 minutes enough to leave a long lasting taste in my mouth? I’m certainly finding myself nodding my head along to each track and there are certainly those “OOOOPPHH” moments when that drop D face punching riffage comes in, but it’s sometimes hard to put a finger on which song is which?
I can imagine the force of these tracks live and the fun intensity that comes with it, but as I’m listening from the comfort of my couch sipping my camomile tea, it’s hard to un-blend the mix of anger fuelled sub 2 min tracks. There is not much coming at me in terms of iconic moments other than a continuous punch to the face, which at the same time, I ain’t complaining and I’d gladly put this album on when I’m in a foul mood and go driving in the Dublin mountains at night, in the rain.
Certainly not something to be negative about though as this is an album that will lead to other paths, open up more doors and provide the fuel for album number two from the Swedish 4 piece. I’m just curious about the real story behind those 1.4 million streams.
Quality over quantity so they say I suppose.
I’m giving this one 4 out of 10.
