Melbourne-based post-punk/alt-rock provocateurs Sex Mask release their epic new single and video, ‘Beheadal’. The single and video comes alongside a re-release of their single ‘Birds’. The release of the single also comes with the announcement of a double A-Side 7” vinyl of ‘Birds/Beheadal’.
On ‘Beheadal’, the eclectic trio Sex Mask delivers a track which oozes raw, tumultuous sonics, purveying an interesting cross-section of punk, rap, nu-metal and spoken word.
The music video for ‘Beheadal’, filmed in a rural forest outside Melbourne, is shot often in a handheld style, giving it an organic and personal connection for the audience. A fisheye camera paired with quick cuts and various close-ups/extreme close-up shots create additional chaotic moments, as throughout the video we see the band in various settings including the woods and a burning house.
Speaking about their new single, Wry Gray (frontman) said:
“’Beheadal’ is about communicating honestly, even when that’s unflattering. Being in the throes of truths destructive capabilities. It might sound abrasive, but it’s about being truthful. Through self hypnotism I was able to briefly access the reservoir underneath consciousness and from there it was a tedious process spanning an entire fifteen minutes.”
